Ambrose Wood, 93, widower of Edna Kirby Wood, passed away Sunday, as the Compassionate Care Center after a long illness. Mr. Wood was a native of Estill County, a son of the late John D. and Bertha Stevens Wood. He was a former Sheriff of Estill county, and a retired mason, working until he was 84 years old. He was a member of Masonic lodge F&AM # 437, O.D. Henderson Lodge. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers Willis, Willie, Clarence, Lewis , Omean, and Harold Wood; his sisters Mary Freeman, Alice Woods, Mattie Woods, Dovie Tuttle, and Aileen Harrison; his step grandson Benny Estes Jr. Survivors include his son Darrell "Smokey" (and wife Priscilla) Woods; his brothers Edgar and Alford Woods; his step-grandchildren Anthony Barnett and Martina Hackworth. Services will be held Thursday, February 11th, 2016, 1:00 pm at Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the West Irvine Cemetery.
