Obituary

Arthur Ray Abney, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Ravenna, Kentucky. He was born on May 18, 1940, to the late Everett Abney and the late Myrtle Abney.

Arthur enjoyed watching the Kentucky Wildcats play basketball and spending time playing in a softball league. He found great joy cheering on his favorite teams, but his greatest happiness came from spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Arthur was a member of the Church of God. He was retired from the Blue Grass Army Depot and was also a farmer who truly loved working the land.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Jane Abney; two sisters, Jewell Abney Robbins and Belva Bennett; and one brother, Lenlie Abney.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandy (Bobby) Lee of Irvine, Kentucky, and Jenny (Blaine) Ervin of Jeffersonville, Kentucky; one son, Anthony (Melissa) Abney of Irvine, Kentucky; and two brothers, Donald (Marie) Abney and Ernie (Glenda) Abney, both of Estill County. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: MiKayla Ervin, Joshua Ervin, Aaron Abney, Bobby Lee, Brandon Lee, Austin Abney, and Lawson Abney.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Jim Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery on Patsy Road.

Serving as active pallbearers will be MiKayla Ervin, Joshua Ervin, Aaron Abney, Bobby Lee, Brandon Lee, and Austin Abney, with Lawson Abney serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lewis Funeral Home of Irvine.
