Bishop Edgar Rawlins Jr., 61, of Kokomo, passed away at 12:10 PM, Monday, July 30, 2012 at Saint Joseph Hospital. He was born March 21, 1951 in Irvine, Kentucky to Edgar Rawlins Sr. and Haley Ann (Dawes) Rawlins. On July 3, 1970 in Irvine, KY, he married Phyllis Ann (Arvin) Rawlins, and she survives. He was a Drill Sergeant in the United States Army. He was Senior Pastor at Woodlawn Church of God for 18 years before retiring in 2009. He was Chairman over the building and finance committees of Churches of God in the state of Indiana. He enjoyed fishing and doing woodwork. Edgar always said, "When I die I want it to be said that I was a Christian". Survivors include, his wife Phyllis; son, Allen and wife Alecia Rawlins, Kokomo; son, Shane and wife Jennifer Rawlins, Valrico, Florida; brother, Terry Rawlins, Irvine, KY; sister, Virginia Wiseman, Irvine, KY; sister, Shirley and husband Roger Milby, Irvine, KY; sister, Kathy Rawlins, Irvine, KY; grandchildren, Hayden and wife Chelsea Rawlins, Kokomo, Jade Noelle Rawlins, Kokomo, Luke Rawlins and Hailee Rawlins, both of Valrico, Florida; step grandchildren, Kyle Burdette and Nicole Burdette, both of Kokomo; he is also survived by his dog Angel. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 5:00 PM Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Woodland Church of God, 3401 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, with his sons Bishops Allen and Shane Rawlins officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 - 5:00 PM Thursday, two hours prior to the service at the church. Services will also be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Ravenna Church of God, 210 3rd Street, Ravenna , KY, with longtime friend Rev. Randall Mays officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 - 2:00 PM Saturday, two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at South Irvine Cemetery, South Irvine, KY. Ellers Mortuary of Kokomo, Indiana and Lewis Funeral Home of Irvine, Kentucky are assisting the family with arrangements.
