Obituary

Fred Morris Brown, 89, husband of Thelda Cox Brown, passed away Saturday morning at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine. Mr. Brown was a native of Estill County, a son of the late Fred and Rhoda Alexander Brown. He was preceded in death by his infant sister Anna Francis Brown. Mr. Brown was United States Army Veteran, serving active duty during WWII. Mr. Brown was enroute to the Pacific, when the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan. Mr. Brown was a member of the Wisemantown United Methodist Church, former member of the Estill County Farm Bureau Board, former president of the Estill County Farm Bureau Board, when elected was the youngest serving president in the state, he was a crop hail adjuster for Farm Bureau, a charter member of the Estill County Fair Board, he sat on the board of directors for the Union Bank, board of directors for Jackson RECC (1969-2014), East Kentucky Power Co-op Board of Directors (1980-2012), Agriculture Extension Board and Council, a member of the Estill County Agriculture Hall of Fame, and the Estill County Cattlemen's Association. He spent his entire life farming, which is what he loved. Survivors other than his wife of 39 years, Thelda, include his son Fred (and wife Joy) Brown II; his brother Herbert (and wife Jo Ann) Brown; his nephew Scott (and wife Kathy) Brown; his grandchildren Hannah, Hunter, and Hayden; and many loving cousins. Services will be held Wednesday, October 7th, 2015, at 11:00 am at Lewis Funeral Home, with Bro. Greg McClellan officiating. Burial will follow in the Alexander Cemetery, with full military honors. Friends may call anytime after 6:00 pm Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Scott Brown, Travis Brown, Walter Alexander, Mike Ruschell, Steve Ruschell, and Ralph Ruschell.
