Joan Webb Hughes, age 94, of Irvine, Kentucky departed this life on Tuesday, November 2, 2023, after a lengthy illness.

Joan was born on January 29, 1929, in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Richard Hood Webb and Grace Murphy Webb.

Ms. Hughes attended Kentucky Wesleyan College until its closing, at which point she finished her teaching degree at Eastern Kentucky University. She was a retired teacher with the Estill County school system where she taught 1st and 3rd grade for 33 years. After retirement she continued working as a substitute teacher for the Estill County school system. She loved her family, teaching, shopping, and her cats. She was a member of the River Drive Christian Church for many years, until her health declined making it difficult for her to attend.

She is survived by her loving son, James Hood Hughes and his wife, Elizabeth Abney Hughes, 2 special cousins, Edna Grace Murphy and Dickie Murphy, and her best buddy and caregiver, Shirley Stamper. Along with numerous other relatives and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.

Funeral services for Joan Webb Hughes will be conducted on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 3:00 P.M. at the White Oak Church of God. Brother Glyndon Woosley will be officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at 3:00 P.M. at the church.

The pallbearers will be Earl Young, Raymond Conrad, Glyndon Woosley Jr., David Harrison, James Gross, and Todd Reece. Honorary pallbearers will be William Beard and Dickie Murphy.
