Obituary

Johnny B. Rison, 85, husband of Barbara Williams Rison, died Sunday, September 6th, 2015, after a long illness. He was born June 29th, 1930 in Estill County, a son of the Late Earl and Rachel Embry Rison. He was a member of the Millers Creek First Church of God for over fifty years, having served in the past as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the board of trustees, a retired employee of the Irvine Community TV, and a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea. He enjoyed sports of all kinds. He was a member of the Estill County Golf Club, a former little league baseball coach, a church league softball coach, and played in the Bluegrass Baseball league until the age of 36. He was preceded in death by his brother Tracy Rison, and his sister Kathryn Cornelius. Survivors include his wife Barbara; two sons Joel Barton (Sue) Rison and William Phillip (Paula) Rison both of Mt. Sterling; his brothers Dwight & Clarence Rison; his sisters Louise Rogers, Elizabeth Fielder, Ida Mae Ashcraft, Sue Albritton, and Blanche Miller; four grandchildren Rebecca (Radley) Chase, Daniel Isaac Rison, Lindsay (Austin) Maples, Colby Rison; two Step-grandchildren, Mendy Evans and Missy (Jeff) Ryder; two great-grandchildren, Jules Chase and William Maples; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Millers Creek 1st Church of God on Thursday, Sept. 10th, at 11:00 am with Bro. Merle Travis officiating. Burial will follow in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call after 6:00 pm Wed, at the Lewis Funeral Home, and on Thursday from 10:00 until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Colby Rison, Daniel Rison, Austin Maples, Radley Chase, Patrick Lay, and Jeff Ryder.
