Joy Ann Burkhart, age 89, departed this life Monday, December 26, 2022, at her home after a brief illness. Joy was born December 6, 1933, in Estill County to the parents of John and Laura Mae Tipton Lee. She had three siblings: Ralph, Gene and Eva.

Joy graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in education. She began her teaching career in a one room school setting and would later go on to teach at West Irvine Elementary but spent most of her career at Ravenna Elementary. Joy retired after a fruitful 34-year teaching career.

Billy and Joy Burkhart were married in 1962, They had one son, Tim ( Melisa ) and one grandson, Will. They were long time members of Tiver Drive Christian Church. Joy had a small, but close-knit family whom she dearly loved and countless friends.

A memorial service will be held early next spring, her favorite season of the year. Arrangements were handled by Lewis Home for Funerals with burial in Oakdale Cemetery.
