Obituary

Laverne Walters Riddell, 80, was called home to be with her precious Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in Irvine, Kentucky at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital.

Laverne was born on a snowy Christmas Day in the year 1942 to Bevley "Cutter" Walters and Edna Tipton Walters. She grew up in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains with 9 brothers and sisters whom she loved dearly. She was a member of the Cow Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years and lived in Ravenna, Kentucky most of her life.

Laverne was a strong woman of God, a ray of sunshine and a bright shining light for everyone around her. She was a rare and precious woman who only spoke joy, happiness and the love of God into the world.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend – she always had a smile on her face and a song in her heart. Her happiest moments were times spent with the love of her life, Elmer Gene Riddell. With whom she had the greatest love you could ever imagine. A born nurturer, she mothered every child she met and raised three beautiful children who were her pride and joy, Frank, Randy and Amy.

She loved nature, gardening and always stopped to smell the flowers. Her solace was found in the countryside and the picturesque gardens around her home that had been made into her own personal heaven on Earth. She was the life of the party, known for her dancing skills and a songbird singing beautiful harmonies. She loved the color yellow, sunflowers and daisies, pretty dresses, peanut butter milkshakes from The Twin, birdwatching and butterflies.

One thing about her that she wanted everyone to know was how much she loved Jesus. Her faith was at the core of everything she did, and she took pride in raising a strong Christian family. She lived to rejoice and worship God, always affirming to any and all she knew that "Jesus Loves You!"

She is preceded in death by her parents Bevley and Edna Tipton Walter, four sisters, Helen Ruth Walters, Bernice Hall (James), Bonnie Henry (Harold and Blanch Griffith. One sister-in-law, Louise Walters and Several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her devoted husband Elmer Gene Riddell of 54 years. Two loving sons, Frank (Kathy) Sutter and Randy (Charlotte) Sutter, her sweet daughter Amy Riddell-Stepp, five cherished grandchildren, Brooklyn (Dallas) Chilton, Alexandria (Matthew) Sorrell, James Ryan (Hannah) Sutter, Tyler Sutter and Mason Sutter.
