Mary Ann Erwin, age 96, passed away September 26, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born on May 13, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Herbert and Jennie Jordan McCarthy. Mary, fondly remembered as “Gran” or “Granny”, was happiest in a full house, with plenty of food and laughter to go around. She was a die-hard sports fan, a card shark at the poker table, and never one to let a rule get in the way of a good time. But what people will remember most is how she cared for others. It never mattered how much she had; she wanted to share with those around her. Over her long, full life, nothing mattered more to her than time spent with the family and friends who will miss her deeply.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Harley Erwin Sr. and Albert Estes; daughter, Janet Erwin; son, Harley “Bud” Erwin; sister, Betty Lou McCarthy Bowyer; and brother Herbert McCarthy Jr.

 She is survived by children, Sherrie (Mark) Wiseman, Mark Erwin, Jonah Estes, and Becky (Charlie) Petty; daughter-in-law Gail Erwin; grandchildren, Angie (Bob) Lovett, Shelly (Randall) Broughton, Mandy (Daniel) Snyder, Rachel Cole, Amy (Dirk) Petty, Annie (Jeremy) Estes, Kasey (Jake) Miller, Alisha Erwin, Haylee (Dannen) D’Arcy, Hannah (Nick) Erwin; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

A celebration of life will be held for family and loved ones to gather and honor her legacy.

In place of flowers, Gran would have wanted you to spend time with the people you love. Call a relative you haven't talked to in a while, share a meal, and stay longer than you planned.
