Mary Carolyn McDowell, age 79, of Irvine, passed away on Tuesday morning August 5th, 2025, at the Fountain Circle Nursing Home in Winchester.

Carolyn was born November 9th, 1945, to the late John Christopher and Sue Hardy Christopher Cox.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin McDowell.

She had lived in Estill County all her life. Carolyn worked at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. in Lexington, Big Value and Food World, both in Irvine. Her last job was at Walgreens in Irvine for 20 years until her health prevented her form continuing. She loved working at Walgreens and spoke often about wanting to return as soon as she could.

Carolyn is survived by her cousin and care giver; Connie Miller and husband Aubrey, also surviving are cousins; Kenneth Hardy of Waco. Randall Hardy of Richmond, Paula Wylie of Frankfort, Barbara Gudgell of Dayton, Ohio, and Betty (Bernie) Baker of Austin, Texas. Carolyn is also survived by a special cousin that she loved like a grandson; Tyler Broaddus of Winchester, along with many other cousins and a host of friends and co-workers who will miss her and mourn her passing.

A memorial service for Mary Carolyn McDowell will be held on August 16th, 2025, in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals at 1:00 P.M. Aubrey Miller will be speaking. Family will receive friends at 11:00 A.M until the time of service.
