Mildred Jean Cole Brandenburg, age 94, widow of Buford Douglas Brandenburg, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024, at The Willows at Citation, Lexington, KY, where she had resided for 2 ½ years.
She was born in Irvine, KY, on November 24, 1929, to the late Pearl and Minnie McKinney Cole.
She was a proud graduate of Irvine High School. She and "Brandy" were married on March 15, 1948.
She was a long-time member of First Christian Church of Irvine where she fulfilled her great love of music by singing in the church choir. She was a member of the Marcum & Wallace Hospital Auxiliary. She was active in the self-proclaimed "Village", a group of ladies who worshipped, lunched and traveled together. She played the piano and painted.
She enjoyed most of her working years at Big "E" Insurance Company in Irvine, KY.
She considered her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to be her greatest blessings in life. Indeed, she was the biggest fan of each of them.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by infant brother, Thomas Alton Cole, sister Roberta Doyle and great granddaughter, Lillian Elizabeth Fore.
She is survived by children: Sharon "Sherri" Sullivan and husband Danny, Lexington, KY., Douglas Wayne Brandenburg, Evans, CO.; and Terri Freeman and husband Otis, Irvine, KY. Grandchildren: Jason Freeman and wife Casey, Irvine, KY; Michael Fore and wife Marie, Richmond, KY; Lori Tobin and husband Mike, Cynthiana, KY; Gina Nyberg, Gilbert, AZ, and Jamie Zelinski, Conroe, TX. Great-grandchildren: Ryan Freeman, Logan freeman, Caroline Fore, Emily Fore, Haley Fauste, Cade Tobin, Brinlee Tobin, Madison Pacula, Deacon Pacula, and the newest addition, great great grandson, Walker Cole Freeman. One brother, Larry Cole, Lithonia GA; Neice Nancy Donaldson, Cincinnati, Ohio; sister-in-law, Diana Brandenburg Chambers, Sharpsburg, KY, and special friends Kay Scrivner and Brenda Bryant.
The family special thanks to her care givers at The Willows at Citation and Bluegrass Care Navigators.
Services for Mildred Jean Cole Brandenburg will be conducted Friday, September 6, 2024, in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals at 1:00 P.M. Brother Steve Garrett will be officiating .Visitation will be held from 11:30 A.M until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Irvine, KY.
Pallbearers: Jason Freeman, Michael Fore, Ryan Freeman, Logan Freeman, Mike Tobin, Cade Tobin, Danny Sullivan and Richard Snowden.
Honorary Pallbearers will be; Otis Freeman and Tobo Bryant.
