Roger Dale Long, 69, passed away Wednesday, November 21st 2012 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a long illness. Mr. Long was a native of Estill County, born August 13th, 1943, a son of the late Herman Long and Emma Francis Abney Long. He was a U.S.Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion, 40/8, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his daughter Myra Long. Survivors include his daughters Melinda and husband Mike Lay, Melanie and husband Charles Stamper; his grandchildren Austin Lay, Kelly Lay, and Benjamin Stamper; his special friend Joy Abney; his brothers Larry Long and Billy Long; his sisters Lois Wiseman, Janice Estes, and Margaret Wieseman; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, November 23rd, 2012, 1:00 PM, at Lewis Funeral Home, with Elzie McIntosh officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 AM Friday until service time. Pallbearers will be Austin Lay, Gary Long, Brandon Long, Tim Riddell.
